DUBAI (Sports Reporter):- The T20 World Cup Cricket tournament has been kicked off on Saturday at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
On first day, Australia and England won their matches against South Africa and West Indies.
In first match, Australia captain Aaron Finch won the toss and opted to bowl first against South Africa.
South Africa set target of 119 runs in 20 overs with loss of 9 wickets.
Chasing a target of 118, the Aaron Finch-led side won the game with two balls to spare.
Aiden Markram had top-scored for the Proteas with a fine 40 off just 26 balls. Australian bowlers were on the money from the word go as they kept taking wickets at regular intervals.
Mitchell Starc and Adam Zampa picked up two wickets each but it was Josh Hazlewood’s 4 overs for just 19 runs and the two wickets that put the brakes on South Africa and for that the tall paceman was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’.
While chasing the score, Australian Steve Smith top-scored for Australia with a 34-ball 35 while Marcus Stoinis chipped in with a 16-ball 24.
Matthew Wade also remained unbeaten and played an important knock for his team.
England also defeated West Indies which is defending champion trophy in the tournament by 6 wickets. English Captain own the toss and opted to bowl first which was proved good decision.
While playing, West Indies team all out after making only 55 scores in 14.2 overs.
English bowler Adil Rasheed did best in his carrier and took four wickets in 2.2 overs and gave only 2 runs.
England chased the easy target in 8.2 overs on the loss of four wickets and won the first match.
