ISLAMABAD (Ahmed Mughal):- The IMF loan program has created a confusion on future of ML-1 under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The Parliamentary body on Planning Commission met here in Islamabad today.
The Secretary Planning Commission Zafar Hassan briefed the meeting on the progress of the mega project of ML-1. Under the PC-1 of the project, the Chinese Govt will finance to the project to upgrade the railway line.
Zafar Hassan also told the committee about the mega project. He said that the both governments have plan to start work on the project from this year. But, IMF loan program has created confusion of the future of the mega project. He said that, Planning Commission doesn’t know exactly what government wants to do in this regard after IMF loan program.
Recently, Pakistan has also signed IMF loan program to deal with current account deficit which has been swelling.
IMF has some reservation on the Chinese loan for Pakistan, the source believes.
The Main Line one (ML-1) is the project to rehabilitation and up-gradation of Karachi-Lahore Peshawar (ML-1) Railway Track. It hass length of around 1,872 kilo meter with the cost of $8.17 billion.
The Ministry informed the Committee that it has conveyed the changes in the proposed PSDP to the National Assembly. It also recommended to provide the letter containing details of changes in the PSDP to the National Assembly.
The Committee also raised the question regarding the non-completion of Narowal Sports City Project. It also recommended that the Narowal Sports City project may be completed on priority basis. The Ministry informed that projects that are 80% complete are given priority. The Committee directed to submit reply about basis of approval and later on disapproval of Mansehra Airport project.
